Apart from Mumbai, Maharashtra State of Electricity Board was in the search of Generation, transmission and Distribution of electricity in Maharashtra. After the enforcement of 2003 Electricity Act, MSEB was divided into three companies as Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd., Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Co. Ltd. and Maharashtra State Power Generation Co. Ltd
Except the island area of Mumbai, MSEDCL provides electricity to 1.86 crores of its esteemed consumers in all over the state of Maharashtra. The annual revenue of MSEDCL is Rs. 33,000 crores which includes consumers from all the fields as 2.5 lakh are industrial, 13.46 lakh are commercial, 30 lakh are agricultural and 1.31 crore are from residential group.
Sources of Power:
The main source of power for MSEDCL is hydropower provided by Koyna. The other sources are thermal, gas and non-conventional sources such as biogas, solar wind power, etc. the large part of power is given by Central Sector projects, Mahagenco projects and RGPPL, which enables them to have thermal power.
MSEDCL covers 457 towns and 41015 villages taking an area about 3.08 sq.kms for its transformers. It operates the network of 11KV, 22KV and 33KV lines. There are 1947 sub stations of 33 KV with transformers having 49000MVA of capacity, feeders of 10334 HV and thousands of kms. of LT and HT lines.
